Forget what you think you already know about Axle Whitehead. All that stuff already feels like a lifetime ago to Axle, but before any of it, first and foremost, Axle is – has always been – a musician in the purist sense of the word. Go to YouTube. Type in his name. [That’s A-x-L-e.] The first thing that comes up is a clip of Axle as a young teenager, fronting a high school jazz combo. Soon after, he was studying music and improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts and cut a living as a professional muso, fronting a group called the Axle Whitehead Band which included some of Melbourne’s hottest jazz musos. The band’s style was a mix of hardcore jazz, hip hop and soul, and they played the best jazz clubs and festivals around Melbourne and into Sydney.
For all that musical experience, Axle’s debut solo album "LOSING SLEEP" is not a jazz album. Far from it. Rather, it’s a dreamy, musically-adventurous collection of original compositions and sophisticated pop songs. "To have all these ideas to make this kind of music and now have it happen – it’s really a dream come true," says Axle.
"LOSING SLEEP" is a brave and beautiful debut album from a young artist who we are sure will soon be best known for his musical ability. And for all his past musical snobbery, Axle Whitehead couldn’t be prouder with "LOSING SLEEP" as his debut solo album.

Wanna Be The Guy and UV Light see the Camels venturing into a soulful and stripped back mode, rounding off the EP with some more on the romantic theme. ‘Wanna Be The Guy’ is a dreamy introspective ballad; and ‘UV Light’ is a dark, shimmering piece of late night yearning.
The Camels have built a reputation from strong songs and a gruelling road philosophy that has seen them cross the country many times, regionally and in capital cities, headlining and sharing large stages with both international acts and big local bands, festivals, and playing to a growing loyal fanbase all over Australia.
The Romance EP was recorded/mixed/mastered in a variety of studios by as many engineers/producers as there are tracks on the release itself. From one of the most talked about and controversial films in recent history, the feature-length insight into Maroubra’s notorious surf tribe the BRA BOYS, comes the emotionally charged All-Australian CD Soundtrack.
The Bra Boys CD Soundtrack is a collection of 14 tunes that feature in the film, including seven songs that were written specifically for the original score. Speckled alongside some of the most well-known surf associated bands in the country the original tunes lyrically and sonically express the thoughts, feelings and characters introduced throughout the very personal journey of brotherhood that is portrayed on screen.
Jamie Holt , singer/songwriter/guitarist from Sydney band The Camels has delivered an astounding 18 pieces of highly original score, stretching far beyond the realm of the pop/rock compositions he’s been known for to date. The first venture of this kind for Jamie, the interest the music has already generated ensures it certainly won’t be his last!
The music selection whilst on first inspection seems like an unusual combination, it’s the very diversity of the tracks that drives the film through its many emotional highs and lows, with the bands themselves providing the common linkage with their respective connections to the surfing commune. Where else could you hear Parkway Drive sit happily alongside The Beautiful Girls, whilst old skool legends Def Wish Cast and rock luminary Grinspoon nestle comfortably together?
In addition to Jamie’s song and score compositions, Macario de Souza (Macca) and Nate Ford, two of the Bra Boys have been able to use the experience of creating the film to write and produce original tracks of their own. In a world where many hip-hop artists are simply storytelling or inventing a back history, 3Seven7 are not wanting for material.
As Bra Boys, 3Seven7 are able to tell their story in verse and represent the messages and annotations depicted in the film without compromise or poetic license. It’s their actual life and the songs are their narrative. In addition to his role in 3Seven7, at the young age of 23years, Matraville raised ‘Macca’ is remarkably also the Co-Director, Editor, Cinematographer and DOP for the Bra Boys Film.
Rounding out the first-rate collection on the compilation are perennial crowd favourites The Butterfly Effect, electronic pop masters The Presets and the never-predictable Regurgiator.
There’s certainly something for everyone and as a body of work the Bra Boys CD Soundtrack offers up an exceptionally fitting sound-scape that allows for immediate transportation to re-live the powerful vision that’s presented in the film.

In 2006 Darren Hayes once again teamed up with live show designer and innovator Willie Williams (U2, R.E.M, David Bowie) to create a unique and wildly entertaining interactive live concert experience. Drawing on theatre, reality television and stand up comedy – it is a stage marriage that has to be seen to be believed.
